The Corrosion & Materials Engineer will be responsible for handling corrosion and erosion threats across bp’s Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Projects Ops, Turnarounds, and Subsea teams. This role will ensure pragmatic risk mitigation solutions that improve safety, production efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization in bp's operations.
The engineer will also contribute to corrosion threat assessments, performance dashboards, integrity management (IM) programs, digital technology projects, and incident investigations—helping to enhance equipment reliability and safety.
✔ Provide expertise on corrosion and erosion threats across Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, Projects Ops, Turnarounds, and Subsea teams.
✔ Ensure effective risk mitigation strategies to enhance safety, reliability, and compliance in operations.
✔ Support corrosion threat assessments and development of corrosion & materials mitigation programs.
✔ Develop performance dashboards for Integrity Management (IM) programs.
✔ Review and endorse corrosion-related metrics, including corrosion control matrices & loss of primary containment (LOPC) data.
✔ Collaborate with Digital & I&E Engineering teams to develop and implement corrosion-related technology programs.
✔ Develop use cases for corrosion monitoring in operations & projects.
✔ Work with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure adequate equipment care, production chemistry, pressure system integrity, and pipeline engineering.
✔ Prepare, update, and improve central guidance documents, workflows, and procedures.
✔ Drive continuous improvement of technical standards, integrating best industry practices and lessons learned.
✔ Provide corrosion and materials engineering support for incident investigations.
✔ Record and share key learnings in shared learning systems.
✔ Integrate lessons into specifications, practices, and procedures to enhance reliability.
✔ Influence technical decisions and improvements across operational teams.
✔ Act as a mentor for junior engineers, supporting their professional development.
✔ Provide visible safety leadership, aligning with bp’s safety principles & process safety fundamentals.
✔ Lead and support performance management initiatives, defining key metrics and driving continuous improvement.
✔ Engage with senior leadership to communicate key findings, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
✔ Bachelor’s degree in Corrosion Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
✔ Postgraduate certification in corrosion.
✔ Professional accreditation (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng) - IOM3, IChemE, Institute of Corrosion).
Preferred Certifications:
✔ Experience with API 580 & API 581 Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methods.
✔ Knowledge of NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist, BSI ISO/ENI AS Standards, AWS/CSWIP/ASNT NDT Techniques.
✔ 10+ years of experience in Corrosion & Materials Engineering within the oil & gas production sector.
✔ Strong technical expertise in:
✔ Experience with welding & sour service.
✔ Integrity management experience in oil & gas projects.
✔ Familiarity with inspection techniques (e.g., UT, radiography, visual, advanced NDT).
✔ Metallographic analysis & interpretation.
✔ Experience with agile principles & tools.
✔ Customer-focused mindset & experience in global collaboration.
