Role Overview

The Remote Unit Health Process Engineer plays a critical role in monitoring, analyzing, and improving refinery unit health through monthly reports and technical assessments. This position is fully deployed within the Refining Performance Unit Health Monitoring Squad, receiving day-to-day direction from the Squad Lead.

As part of a global distributed team, the role will require close collaboration with unit engineers, technical refining SMEs, and refinery support teams worldwide. A self-motivated and detail-oriented professional will thrive in this position.

Key Responsibilities

1. Unit Health Monitoring & Analysis

✔ Develop and deliver monthly process unit health monitoring reports, including findings and recommended actions.
✔ Perform technical assessments for refinery process units.
✔ Lead monthly unit health monitoring discussions and handovers.
✔ Provide domain expertise for AIMS use and calculations.
✔ Drive resolution of UHM findings in partnership with refinery sites.
✔ Implement discipline-delivered content into Palantir.

2. Process Optimization & Technical Support

✔ Enhance monitoring tools to improve asset performance and efficiency.
✔ Support AIMS tool updates based on new findings and standard process updates.
✔ Suggest and implement work process improvements for the squad.
✔ Develop and maintain unit health monitoring tools using OSISoft PI Asset Framework, Vision products, boTec PUHMA, and Palantir.

3. Leadership & Mentorship

✔ Act as a technical lead within the Refining Performance Unit Health Monitoring Squad.
✔ Mentor and coach "Early Careers" engineers on unit monitoring fundamentals.
✔ Assist the Squad Lead in managing ADO boards, backlog items, and team coordination.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

✔ Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (or equivalent).
✔ 5+ years of experience in refining technology & process engineering.
✔ Strong understanding of refining unit operations and process calculations, including:

• Heat exchanger principles
• Distillation principles
• Fluid flow principles
• Reaction principles
  ✔ Previous experience in process engineering monitoring of refinery units.
  ✔ On-site experience working with refinery unit operations.
  ✔ Strong technical communication skills for engaging with engineers and squad members.
  ✔ Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain high attention to detail.
  ✔ Customer-focused mindset with experience supporting cross-functional teams.
  ✔ Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers in unit health monitoring.

Desirable:

✔ Experience working directly with refinery site engineers.
✔ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including:

• Lookup & Reference functions
• Text manipulation functions
• Logic functions
• Basic statistical functions
  ✔ Hands-on experience with Unit Health Monitoring tools (e.g., OSISoft PI Asset Framework, Vision, boTec PUHMA, Palantir).
  ✔ Familiarity with Agile methodologies and workflows.
  ✔ Programming experience in VBA, Power BI.
  ✔ Knowledge of cloud computing & data systems.
  ✔ Engineering Certifications: Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (PE), or European Engineer (EUR ING).
