Job Description

Okulo Aviation is seeking an experienced Computational Design Lead in aircraft design and engineering. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working on groundbreaking technologies and want to make an impact on the future of aviation. The Computational Design Lead will oversee a computational design team specializing in aircraft design, aerodynamics, and structural layout, ensuring the success of the aircraft design process from applied development to production.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Project Management:

  • Lead a computational design team, ensuring effective project management and work breakdown structure.
  • Drive the aircraft design process from development to production.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure effective design solutions and adherence to deadlines.

• Design Reviews & Documentation:

  • Plan and conduct design reviews at all stages of the product lifecycle, ensuring necessary approvals.
  • Ensure technical documentation meets high-quality standards and manage the documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

• Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with a cross-functional team of experts in Aircraft Design (Aero), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Guidance Navigation Control (GNC).
  • Align team objectives with organizational vision and goals.

• Team Building:

  • Lead hiring efforts to onboard top talent in critical areas such as aerodynamics, structural layout, and computational analysis.
  • Support team development and mentoring.

• Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that the team complies with regulatory requirements for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and adheres to best practices to achieve compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering with a demonstrated expertise in aircraft design and analysis.

• Experience:

  • At least 6 years of experience in unmanned aerial systems (UAS) design and testing.
  • Proven track record of building and mentoring teams in aircraft estimation, aerodynamics, and structural modeling.
  • Experience in defense-grade system design and development is highly beneficial.

• Skills:

  • Extensive experience in designing and developing components, subsystems, and full-system-level designs in UAS.
  • Proficiency in simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary problems.
