Job Title: Specialist (Engineering)

Job Overview:

The Specialist will be responsible for planning, evaluating, and analyzing tasks, which may include a major project or multiple smaller and less complex projects. These tasks require the skilled application of regular knowledge in a specific engineering or scientific field. The role will involve working on more technically challenging tasks, developing a comprehensive understanding of techniques, methods, and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engineering Review:
  • Under the supervision of a senior engineer or manager, perform detailed engineering review of plans for compliance with applicable guidelines, regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Provide technical advice to address project-related and other technical challenges.
  • Work on moderately complex issues such as resolving conflicting design requirements, material standards, or coordinating activities between disciplines.
  • Suggest new approaches to issues encountered and recommend changes in processes, methods, or plans.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports and respond to letters, faxes, and other forms of correspondence.
• Client Interaction:
  • Work directly with clients to identify and resolve technical issues within your area of expertise.
  • Communicate the current status of ongoing responsibilities to appropriate team members to ensure client needs are met.
• Teamwork and Independence:
  • Work as part of a team and, after proper training, independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure adherence to ABS Quality Management System requirements.

Education and Experience:

• Required Education:
  • B.S. degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience:
  • At least three (3) years of relevant industry experience.
  • New graduates with relevant industrial experience or specialization are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference for graduates from marine industry-recognized schools or universities.
  • Experience in marine Classification Societies, design/consulting firms, shipbuilding, offshore engineering, or the oil and gas industry will be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, IMO MODU Code, etc.) is a plus.

Technical Skills and Abilities:

• Technical Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of relevant technical disciplines is required.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and propose solutions to problems.
  • Good command of the English language (oral and written communication skills).
• Collaboration:
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
• Specialized Knowledge:
  • Willingness to develop a working knowledge of ABS Safety, Security, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.

Reporting Relationships:

• The Specialist will report to a Manager or Supervisor.

Work Environment:

• The workplace will primarily be in a climate-controlled office setting.
• The role requires sitting for extended periods while working on a computer screen.
